A Tulsa businessman filed Monday as a candidate in the Feb. 11 election for the District 1 seat on the Tulsa school board.

Gary Percefull, president of the public relations firm The Scissortail Group Ltd., was the lone filer in declaring his candidacy to represent the district, which includes the attendance areas of Central and Webster high schools and their feeder schools.

The deadline to file for the seat is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Filing must be done at the Tulsa County Election Board, 555 N. Denver Ave.

The filing period for the seat had long been set when the current District 1 school board member, Charles O. Williams, died Thursday.

Williams defeated Louie D. Moore in a special election Feb. 12 for the remaining year of the term that was vacated by Mark Barcus. Williams' term would have ended in February.

A funeral service for Williams is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morning Star Baptist Church.

Board President Michael Pierce said the district will wait until after the filing period has closed to decide whether to appoint someone to fill the seat until the election.

Percefull has been an active volunteer with Tulsa Public Schools through the Partners in Education program at Park Elementary School and the Suspension Task Force.
